Sunburn part deux

Just an FYI...I did put sunscreen on when I was outside. I learned my lesson that time at Noah's Ark. I only got burned in the areas that I missed with sunscreen.

Sunburn

It's official. It's the 28th of April, and I have my first sunburn of the year. It's only sporadic too. You can obviously tell where I forgot to put sunscreen. It's nice that it's only the end of April and I have a burn. You can't really do that back in Wisconsin. Yesterday my neck burned during Field Day, and today I burned within the 2 hours I was out at the pool. Oh well.

Speaking of Field Day, my favorite student (the one I have stories about) came up to me during recess. I was watching all 4 fifth grade classes to make sure they weren't beating up the few first grade classes when I turned around, and there he was. "There's way too much color out here today!" (Each class had matching shirts for Field Day, and they were different colors depending on the class and grade level. You couldn't have the same color as someone in your grade level.) "But, kid, you have the BEST color on today (we had the same color)" "I know, but there's still WAY too much color going on today." And then he walked off.

Oh my gosh! I went to the Clark County Fair and Rodeo two weeks ago! It was so much fun!! I felt like I was back home at the county or State Fair. They had the racing pigs like back home!!! I couldn't believe it. I was also eating a hot dog about 500 feet from the pigs. Hope they weren't offended. :) I got me a cowgirl hat too while I was there. Shannon and Amanda couldn't believe that I was getting one, but I did. We got to go see the rodeo too! It was the first time I'd been at one. I was kinda waiting for Borat to come out and sing the National Anthem. He didn't. I was screaming after each person went. Shannon turned to me and dared me to yell out "Yee-haw!" at some point. She obviously doesn't know me very well. Within the next 10 minutes I yelled it. I think she and Amanda were ready to disown me. It was fun times had by all.

Another Story

Here's the student story of the day:

At school, we're now doing "Student of the Week." Each teacher can choose a child to be the SOTW, and they get a certificate, pencil, and trophy on their desk for the week. Well, my friend chose our favorite student to be SOTW. The Assistant Principal came to the room to present the certificate and pencil to the student. As the student got his award he said to the AP, "It's about time!" What kid actually says that to the AP?! I thought you'd all enjoy.

Funny Story

When I was home I was sharing stories about a student at my school. I'm not going to name names to protect the innocent, but I will be posting funny things this student says.

This week at school, there was a teacher out all week. I guess the sub that was in the room on the first day had no control over the kids. They were playing games, and banging on the walls, disrupting the class that this student is in. As this student's class was walking through the other room to take a bathroom break, the student says to the other kids, "You're acting like a bunch of maniacs!"

It's not as funny as the other stories I've shared, but it was funny at the time...

Spring Break

Let me start out by saying that I know why people don't think of Wisconsin as a Spring Break destination.

This Spring Break was the most fun filled, and busiest Spring Break. It all started out by driving back to Wisconsin with my sisters. Many people ask me why they didn't just fly out. I think the reason they didn't do that is because when my oldest sister bought a new "SUV" back in July, her goal was to drive out here in it. They drove out here for the last week I was teaching before Spring Break. It was awesome having them out here. I have never been more exhausted. I'm not used to visitors during the school week. I was told that I needed to behave like a young person by people at work, but it's draining teaching all day! I did enjoy winning money downtown. Back to the road trip...it was a good time for the most part. We stopped at the Grand Canyon and stayed too long. It was fun seeing it and being in awe for the first 30 minutes or so...the last 5 and a half hours dragged on. AND they were pushing the limits on the edge of the canyon. Uh-uh. We stopped for a few other tourist traps, and decided to drive the rest of the way home from Albuquerque. 26 hours non-stop wasn't very awesome, but it was better than stopping and still having to drive 14 hours the next day. Good times had by all.

Being home was awesome. I didn't get to see my brother or his family and a couple of other people, but I did get to see the majority of friends. There was a mandatory Perkins run the night I got home, which SOMEONE missed, not going to name names. I got to go up to Green Bay to see everyone. I got to meet my godson! He's the most adorable baby I've come across in a long time (since my nephew was born)! It was good to see mommy and baby together and so happy and healthy. I then got to see everyone else. It was such an awesome time. I'd say I'd forgotten how much fun it is hanging out with all of them, but there's no way I could forget about how fun it is hanging out with them. We spent about 3 hours at dinner, and I think the waitress wanted us to leave sooner. Oh well, it was an awesome time. I'm still smiling when I think about it :). Afterwards, Adam and I decided to go back to his place to change to go out to the bars since the others didn't want to come out with us. We got to my favorite bar to dance, and no one was dancing. I was a bit upset. Then we headed out to see my cousin who was on duty and couldn't come out with us. Headed to a townie bar a block from his apartment, which was interesting. Then played Jeopardy until 4am. Good times.

After Green Bay, I spent a lot of time with the family and a few good people (you know who you are!). Spent most of Saturday with Patty. We went and dyed eggs with Erika and her bf. That was a hilarious time. We then headed downtown to State Street and the Square to walk, talk and enjoy Michelangelo's beverages. Easter felt like just another day, but it was a day spent with my family...and some with my sister's friend to play Friends Scene It. Good times.

It was hard leaving today. It's always somewhat hard leaving, but today it was really hard. Not quite as hard as it was a year ago, going back to a job I hated, but it was still hard. I saw everyone that I'm close to, and want to come back to hang out with them more often. I saw home and my other home (Green Bay), and I want to be able to hang out at my regular places. It wasn't as hard leaving Green Bay this time. The last time I left Green Bay I thought I was going to have to pull over because I was crying so much. I think knowing I'll be back to visit in a couple of months helps. I think being homesick is a sign that I need to move home eventually. I know it won't be soon, even though there are many people who would like to see me there, but I know eventually I'll be back home in cold Wisconsin.
