New update...nice long one for you
I am finally updating my blog. I'm sorry that it's taken so long, but I haven't had internet connection in about a week. I've been going through withdrawal. Not kidding here...
Well, the past week has been a blur. I've finally moved into my own apartment. I didn't think that was ever going to happen. I always thought that I'd be mooching off of my parents for the rest of my life, become a basement dweller. My sister came out here to help me move. The one condition of her coming out was that we had to go to the Strip at least 2 times while she was out here. It was really nice having her out here with me. She got to see Las Vegas like she's never seen before...anywhere off the Strip that didn't include UNLV or the tattoo place she went to when she was out here last. She got to see how huge this place is. There's no such thing as a short drive across town, you always plan on it taking you at least 30 minutes to get places (on a good day). We moved my stuff over to the apartment on Thursday and got the keys and such for it. We decided not to stay the night since I still didn't have a bed. We went back to my godparents' house for the night...well, we waited til later in the night to go out to the Strip since they live much closer to the Strip. Let me tell you, the Strip is totally different than the Vegas I've grown to know. I felt like I was in a totally different place. Well, it could be because I was walking down the street with a drink in my hand, or the fact that my sister was there too. We had to stay out long enough for the Late Night Special Prime Rib at the Imperial Palace. We didn't realize how far down the Strip this place was from where we parked. We got done with dinner (at 12:30am), and were going to head back to the car. My sister grabbed me and told me that we were going to take a cab back to the car since we were both really tired.
Friday morning we got up early so that we could get everything out of their house, and wait for my bed to be delivered to my apartment. It was kinda funny when the mattress people called me. At 5:14am my time, my phone rang, and it was Dan. I cursed at him and went back to bed. I woke up and listened to the message, and called him back about 2 hours later. As I was talking to him, one of us lost connection. The phone began ringing, and I just picked it up without recognizing the ring or the number, "Hey, I lost you for a minute" "Um...this is Best Mattress calling about the delivery time for your mattress." That's great... Anyhoos, my sister and I packed up my car and headed over to my apartment. We unloaded, and I stayed behind waiting for the bed to be delivered while she went out for breakfast a couple of things we needed for the morning. I had my DVD player and VCR and the TV that my godfather had given me, but I had forgotten the cable to connect to the VCR to the TV at home. She picked it up so that we could watch Gilmore Girls on the TV on the floor with the red tint...good times had by all. Once the bed was delivered, we went out shopping. There was too much shopping happening that day. We started out with Sams, and were going to go to WalMart, but decided to go to WalMart later in the day. Headed to Goodwill, who wants pretty much the same price as the retail stores do for the cheap bookcases and entertainment stands, then headed out to get a TB test. I had my sister drive since she always calls me a baby for complaining about the traffic. I figured there'd be traffic at the time I had her drive. There wasn't as much traffic as I thought there was going to be. Then we get to the place for the TB test, and they aren't doing it since Monday they'll be closed for the holiday and won't be able to do the readings...damn them! That's ok, we went to go see my godmother in the hospital, and then went off to do our major shopping. I figured I'd take a new way to the Target I usually go to since that was the closest to us. My sister learned quickly that when I say, "hmmm...." while driving means we're going on an excursion. I did that quite a few times when we were driving around town. Went to Target, Home Depot, then headed to WalMart over by my place. By the time we were in WalMart we were both pretty darn tired. We picked up almost everything on my list. We were falling asleep as we waited in line, and came home to make dinner. It's great, the first meal I cooked in my apartment was Spiral Mac and Cheese, and my sister had soup. Class-assy.
Saturday we picked up a moving van to get all of my furniture and big items. My apartment is now furnished by my godparents and WalMart. Good times had by all. My sister and I went grocery shopping once all of the moving and such was done. I picked up enough to stock the cabinets for a few months. I ended up saving about 40 some dollars with my card...kick ass! That meant 15 cents off a gallon next time I filled up at that store's gas station. We spent the night building the furniture. I spent half the night putting the kitchen together, and then I moved onto the futon. It was all in half. I had to piece it all together. I don't remember my other futon being like that. It usually took me about 15-20 minutes to put it together. This one was a beast! It's never coming apart! It took me 2 hours and a few meltdowns. I remember throwing the allen wrench and bolt whilst yelling out F$%^ this! Good times.
Sunday we slept in. I went out for the paper and some bacon to go with breakfast. We took it pretty easy all day. I emptied all of the Target and WalMart bags, and made my apartment look somewhat like an apartment.
Monday we went to the Strip for the day, and to celebrate Dr. King. We were on the Strip when the war broke, so we were out for the soldiers that night, and so we only thought it fitting to be out for Dr. King. Yeah, we're messed up, I'm sorry. But I did win about 50 bucks that day! Sweet! We stopped at Target on the way back to my apartment to exchange some things, and while there saw the twin of one of our managers from BN! It was crazy. I was talking on the phone when my sister pointed him out, and I just agreed with her until it hit me 30 seconds later, when I freaked out.
Tuesday we were in search of a Sonic since they advertise back home, and there aren't any near Madison. We got there, but got weirded out. It's like the old fashioned fast food places where you drive up to the menu and they bring it out to you. Yeah, great description. Think about the Flintstones...where they drive up to the place, and the chick rolls up to the car with the big thing of meat for Fred. That kind of place. We had to punch in our orders and such. We decided to not do that, and headed back to my apartment for lunch and then went shopping for random stuff during the day. While I was home for lunch I called to get my cable and phone service. They guy I talked to at Sprint reminded me a lot of Jason. I don't know why, but he did. I'm thinking that's cuz I haven't seen much of him, and I'm going through withdrawal (you guys need to come out soon so I don't go crazy!!!). I took my sister to the airport right after Gilmore Girls. It wasn't cool doing that. I knew that after I dropped her off, I wouldn't really be seeing anyone from home until pretty much April. Yeah, my cousins are going to be here in two weekends, but I don't see them as often as friends and family from Madison. I drove off, and it hit me that I was going back to my apartment alone. I had never done that. I called Erika to cheer me up since I was almost in tears becoming homesick already. Got back to the apartment, watched some NewsRadio, and went to bed.
Wednesday and Thursday I spent a few hours each morning in my room. I learned that others were using my room while I was gone on break. Whatever... Friday I went to get my TB test. I took the same route my sister and I took last week at the same time as last week as well. Well, I left my apartment at 2:20, and got back at 4:50. Not cool. I got to the clinic at like 3:05, and was back in my car by 3:10. I made a 10 minute stop to get some pineapple juice for some Giggling Giraffes and a steak for dinner. It took me that damn long to get back to my apartment with the traffic and such. Got online for the first time in a week, and went crazy! It was good being back online.
Today I worked on school stuff and laundry. I've become a grown up...I can't stand my apartment messy. I have to clean up stuff like crazy. And I've decided that Saturdays are going to be laundry days...I don't know what's going on with me! I also lit a bunch of candles in the apartment today. I've got this unhealthy obsession with candles now...I think it's due to no candles from the res halls. I also didn't leave my apartment today. I like living on my own, but I wish I had friends here. I know they'll come soon, but I've been lonely the past few days. I have no one to hang out with. I sit here by myself all day. School's starting up again, and that's going to consume my life again, but still. It'd be nice if I had someone to call up on a Saturday after I get my laundry done to see what they're up to, and just hang out...It'll come, just not soon enough.
On a happier note, for the first time ever, there's not going to be a snowstorm or snow for my birthday! It's supposed to be 61 and sunny on Thursday I can handle that! Just wish I didn't have that conference after school...oh well, I can still deal!
